Antique Saltbox Westwood Renovation
Antique Saltbox Westwood Renovation
Watermelon Sugar Brick
The kitchen and dining room of a 1680 Saltbox in Westwood – the oldest home in the town – were dark and uninviting. We worked with the homeowners to reimagine the spaces while honoring the antique feeling they love. Within the same footprint, the new kitchen features custom cabinetry painted in bright green, with a surprise inside the pantry - a pretty pink hue. The kitchen is completely refreshed with a vaulted ceiling and reclaimed wood beams and a new, expanded window over the apron-front sink. Removing the wall between the dining room and kitchen gives both spaces an open airy feeling. Variegated brick floors were added to match the inside of the antique dining room hearth, while a set of French doors in the dining room supplants a small window, and creates access to the gravel patio and beyond. The creamy dining room walls replace the dark red paint and work well with the plaster-textured walls of the kitchen. Marble countertops and backsplash, brass faucet, range, and hood encased in custom bead-board (matching the peninsula between the dining room and kitchen) provide all of the updates that bring the space into the 21st century with style.
